The click beetle genus Agriotes includes some of the most damaging wireworms in arable crops. Of the five Agriotes species classified as economically important in Germany, one, Agriotes sordidus, is to be regarded as a newcomer that has recently spread northwards. This originally western Mediterranean species, which is considered to be very damaging, is also recorded in the nationwide click beetle monitoring.
